Choosing A Stairlift

When it comes time to looking into choosing a stairlift, that task can seem both overwhelming and daunting. You may find yourself searching online “googling” trying to get the right information such as, where do I buy a stairlift, who even sells them, what brand should I choose, do I need a curved or straight lift?  At Stay@Home Design and Build we’ll help you work through all of that confusion and answer some of the most common questions.

Always remember, the most important part of this process is figuring out what YOUR specific needs and requirements are. So, here are some questions that may help you along in understanding what type of lift is best for you.

●Does the lift need to be able to travel multiple levels without you getting off the lift/seat at any point?

●Do you have any health or mobility conditions that make traversing stairs difficult or put you at a risk of a fall?

●Do you have limited strength or mobility issues that may require you to use the assistance of power options such as a power seat or footrest?

●Is your staircase straight?

●Does the staircase have any turns or landings?

●Is this a long term or short-term solution?

Another key component is deciding which brand to purchase.

There are numerous brands of stairlifts out there, all with different options and price points.

Here are a few manufactures to consider (In no particular order) when considering a stairlift.

● Harmar

● AmeriGlide

● Savaria

● Handicare

● Stannah

● Access BDD (ThyssenKrupp Elevators)

● Acorn

● Bruno

Based on our industry experience, we decided to partner with Savaria and Access BDD (ThyssenKrupp Elevators). We believe that if you want to provide the best customer service, you need to offer the best products that the market has to offer. Savaria is a Canadian based company with over fifty years of experience in the stairlift and elevator marketplace. ACCESS BDD (ThyssenKrupp Elevators) is another industry leader with over one hundred years of manufacturing and business experience internationally.  Both manufactures have a strong focus and track record for building reliable, durable and quality products.

Aside from choosing the right product, the biggest decision you as the client can make is choosing the right dealer/installer. The dealer/vendor you choose is your advocate between you and the manufacture. The dealer’s role is to provide you with the right information, guidance along with providing you with after sales installation, services and warranty support on your stairlift.  It is important to choose a dealer that you are comfortable communicating with and that is understanding, knowledgeable and capable.  Your dealer is with you throughout the life cycle of your stairlift, so you might as well be dealing with people whose company you enjoy.
